"The build started by combining a Hot Wheels Samurai with a shortened Jada Hummer base to fit perfectly underneath. Most of the Hummer’s accessories—like the grill guard, light rack, rear bumper, side mirrors, and speaker deck—found a new home on the Samurai. For a unique flair, I added white wall tires sourced from another Jada truck, pairing them with upholstery tacks as dish rims for a bold, retro-inspired look."

How did you bring this custom to life?

The Paint and Decals: A Retro Revival

Tim’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the build. The engine, for example, is a repurposed M2 that sticks proudly out of the hood, while the side pipes were sourced from a Matchbox semi-truck.

"I opted for a pearl white base coat with accents of 80s green on the rims and roll bar to capture that retro vibe. The checkerboard hood is a personal touch, inspired by the Vans I wore back in the 80s. I make my own decals and rely on rattle can paints, which lets me get the exact look I’m going for."

Tim’s ability to repurpose parts from other castings and scratch-build components is a testament to his ingenuity. Every piece tells a story, and this Samurai build is no exception..

A Personal Connection

"This build is particularly special to me because I used to own an ’83 Samurai, one of my favorite vehicles. Driving it for a few years left me with great memories, and this custom is my way of revisiting them."
