Mike Zarnock
The Ultimate Hot Wheels Authority

Collector: Mike Zarnock
Country: United States of America

My passion for Hot Wheels ignited in 1968 when I first encountered these die-cast marvels. The vibrant designs and intricate details captivated me instantly. From that moment, I was hooked, and my collection began to take shape.
How did you get into collecting?
How did your collection get to roughly 30,000 cars today?
Over the years, my dedication to collecting never wavered. As I immersed myself in the world of Hot Wheels, I began writing about them. I have authored 14 books and countless magazine articles, diving deep into the history, variations, and the collector's market. My work has been a resource for enthusiasts worldwide, helping them understand the evolution and rarity of these miniature masterpieces.
For decades, Mike has been more than just a collector; he has been a driving force in the Hot Wheels community. His love for cars didn’t start with the toy version though—it began under the hood of real Hot Rods, where he spent years building and racing, bringing the same enthusiasm and attention to detail to his miniature collection.
But his passion isn't about having the biggest or rarest collection. It’s about the thrill of discovery, the history behind each model, and the friendships built along the way. Hence you will find often an image on his Instagram asking if anyone has the item in the image for sale.
Mike is undoubtedly a good friend to many, one of those friendships is with Larry Wood, the legendary Hot Wheels designer also known as Mr. Hot Wheels. Their shared love for cars forged a bond beyond collecting—two minds united in their appreciation for craftsmanship and storytelling through die-cast vehicles.
For Mike, Hot Wheels isn’t just about the cars; it’s about the stories they carry, the memories they create, and the people who make them special.

He isn’t in competition with anyone. He’s here to share, educate, and inspire. Whether it’s through his books, his work on Hot Wheels TV, or meeting fans at conventions, he’s always ready to talk, help, and encourage new collectors.
